On August 28, Saturday, Hookuaaina has invited the Optimist Club and friends of the Optimist Club to a volunteer opportunity. If you haven’t been to a lo’i before, you are in for a treat. There will be a brief lesson on how they grow kalo and how they maintain the lo’i and what the vision and mission of Hookuaaina is. It’s a beautiful setting off of Auloa Street before Kailua town. However, be ready to get down and dirty and muddy because you’ll have an opportunity to actually go into a lo’i which are usually full of mud, kalo and little critters. The water, however, is super clean and very refreshing and the clean fresh air is very healing.
This was a great project! Thanks to all that participated . . . sorry about the mud but you were warned!
